For this artwork, I used this type of foam because its combination of thickness and density makes it ideal for creating three-dimensional shapes and sculptural details.
I spent a lot of time researching and testing different air-dry clays to find one with minimal shrinkage and excellent workability. This is one of the best options I've found, and it's the type of clay I personally use in my own artwork.
For this artwork, I used this type of cutter to create relatively simple foam shapes. It makes the cutting process cleaner, smoother, and much more convenient.
For this artwork, you can use either black or white PVC foam board to create a clean, professional backing. I’ve selected a suitable thickness and size to fit your CORN TRICK artwork perfectly, making the finishing process simple and convenient.
For this artwork, I chose this plastic wrap because of its durability, flexibility, and ability to stretch into a smooth, even layer. It clings well to the work surface, making it easier to roll out the clay, prevent sticking, and shape the texture without damaging the details.
For this artwork, I used an adjustable rolling pin with thickness rings to roll out the clay evenly. It helps maintain a consistent thickness across the entire sheet, making it easier to achieve a smooth, professional result.
For this artwork, I used this type of utility knife because of its sturdy construction and high-quality blades. It provides clean, precise cuts, while the durable blades stay sharp longer and require less frequent replacement.
For this artwork, I used this type of 3M respirator to protect myself while working with aerosol spray paints. With the appropriate filters, it helps reduce exposure to harmful paint particles and organic vapors, making the painting process safer.

For this artwork, I recommend using a foam-safe construction adhesive to attach the PVC backing to the foam base. A good adhesive creates a strong, reliable bond between both materials without damaging the delicate foam structure.
This is especially important because many conventional adhesives contain solvents that can dissolve polystyrene foam, while others may not bond securely to plastic. Make sure to choose a formula specifically compatible with both EPS foam and PVC for a clean, durable finish.

STEP-BY-STEP CREATIVE ROADMAP

Choose a well-ventilated, well-lit workspace with a comfortable room temperature. Prepare a sturdy table and keep all your tools and materials within easy reach. Don't forget a trash bin for foam scraps and leftover materials. A clean, organized workspace makes the creative process much easier!
Take a piece of polystyrene foam and use a utility knife and ruler to cut a 25 × 25 cm (approximately 10 × 10 inch) square.
Next, cut two strips of transparent tape, approximately 50 cm (20 inches) long. Join the ends of each strip to form a loop with the sticky side facing outward. Attach both loops to the back of the foam, then press the foam firmly onto your worktable to keep it from moving while you work.

Using a hot foam cutter, carefully sculpt smooth, flowing curves across the foam surface, following the technique shown in the video.
Try to create noticeable differences in height between the raised and recessed areas. The more dimensional your surface becomes, the more impressive the final lighting and color effects will look.
Safety first: The cutter becomes extremely hot. Avoid touching the heated tip, work with effective ventilation or local fume extraction, and use respiratory protection suitable for the fumes generated by heated foam. A basic dust mask is not sufficient for these fumes.
Once you're happy with the shape, collect and dispose of the foam scraps and clean your workspace.

Take another portion of terracotta clay and roll it into a sheet approximately 1 cm (0.4 inches) thick.
Using a ruler and utility knife, cut the clay into strips about 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) wide.
Separate the strips and roll each one between your hands and the table to create long, flexible clay ropes.
You'll need quite a few of these, so take your time and try to keep their thickness reasonably consistent.

Time to remember your basic braiding skills!

Gradually extend the effect from the chosen corner toward the center and slightly beyond, following the technique shown in the video.

Allow approximately one hour for drying, following the paint manufacturer's instructions.
