For this artwork, I used this type of foam because its combination of thickness and density makes it ideal for creating three-dimensional shapes and sculptural details.
I spent a lot of time researching and testing different air-dry clays to find one with minimal shrinkage and excellent workability. This is one of the best options I've found, and it's the type of clay I personally use in my own artwork.
For this artwork, I used this type of cutter to create relatively simple foam shapes. It makes the cutting process cleaner, smoother, and much more convenient.
For this artwork, I used an adjustable rolling pin with thickness rings to roll out the clay evenly. It helps maintain a consistent thickness across the entire sheet, making it easier to achieve a smooth, professional result.
For this artwork, I used this type of utility knife because of its sturdy construction and high-quality blades. It provides clean, precise cuts, while the durable blades stay sharp longer and require less frequent replacement.
For this artwork, I used this type of 3M respirator to protect myself while working with aerosol spray paints. With the appropriate filters, it helps reduce exposure to harmful paint particles and organic vapors, making the painting process safer.

STEP-BY-STEP CREATIVE ROADMAP

Choose a well-ventilated, well-lit workspace with a comfortable table and enough room for your materials. Keep a trash bin nearby for foam scraps and other waste.
You'll also need some plastic wrap (cling film) to protect your table when working with clay.

Using a ruler and a utility knife, carefully cut a square piece of foam measuring 25 × 25 cm (approximately 10 × 10 inches).
For my CORN TRICK artwork, I used foam that was 5 cm (2 inches) thick. Try to keep the edges as straight and even as possible.

Cut two strips of clear packing tape, each approximately 50 cm (20 inches) long.
Join the ends of each strip to form a loop with the sticky side facing outward.
Attach both loops to the back of your foam square, then press it firmly onto your work surface. This simple trick helps keep the foam from moving while you shape it.

Now it's time to create the foundation of your 3D effect!
Using your foam cutter, carefully carve flowing curves and raised areas into the surface, following the technique shown in the video.
The more pronounced the curves and depth, the more dramatic the final color-shifting effect can become.
Safety first: A hot foam cutter can cause burns and release harmful fumes. Work with effective local fume extraction or outdoors in suitable conditions, and follow the manufacturer's safety instructions. A regular dust mask does not protect against these fumes. Never touch the heated cutting element.

Gently roll the corn cob across the clay, applying steady, even pressure to leave a clear impression of the kernels.
Continue rolling in smooth, overlapping passes until the entire clay sheet is covered with the corn pattern. Take your time to keep the texture consistent and avoid flattening the details you've already created.

Carefully lift the textured clay sheet from your work surface and place it over the carved foam base, keeping the corn impressions facing upward.
Center the sheet so there's enough extra clay on all four sides to wrap around the foam.

Make sure the spray nozzle is clean to avoid unwanted paint droplets. Follow the technique shown in the video, and let the paint dry for approximately one hour or as directed on the can.

Cut a piece of black or white PVC foam board measuring 25 × 25 cm (10 × 10 inches).
Using a suitable construction adhesive from the materials list, attach the board to the back of your artwork. Make sure the adhesive is compatible with both PVC and your foam base.
If you'd like to hang the artwork on a wall, you can also install an appropriate mounting system on the backing. Make sure it's securely attached and suitable for the artwork's weight.
Cut a piece of black or white PVC foam board measuring 25 × 25 cm (10 × 10 inches).
Using a suitable construction adhesive from the materials list, attach the board to the back of your artwork. Make sure the adhesive is compatible with both PVC and your foam base.
